In this thesis, the goal of my work is increasing the accessibility of the street intersections for visually impaired people. This is an extension to the CrossSafe paper published by my guide Prof. Edward Wong which was also working towards the same goal. The problem we focus here is to identify the approximate direction of the zebra crossing using a lightweight neural network that is suitable for devices with limited computing power. In this thesis, we make use of both the traditional computer vision tools such as Canny Edge Detector and modern tools such as deep neural networks and propose a methodology to find an approximate direction of the street crossing and evaluate its performance.
