This qualitative research was designed as a cross-cultural case study to compare and contrast art teaching methods and strategies between Taiwan and the United States in developing children's critical thinking ability and individual expression through art lessons. The research also sought to understand students' perceptions and reflections, by means of presenting their works of art visually and verbally, on the art classes which implemented with the feature of critical thinking. The chapter of methodology elaborates on the consideration of the research design including research settings and preparations, data collection, data analysis, study limitations. The research results indicate several major differences and similarities of art classes between Taiwan and the United States. The first half of the findings focuses on students' responses to and artistic expression in the art lessons that addressed critical thinking. The second half involves greater details of curriculum design and art teaching from instructors' perspectives. The last chapter draws a conclusion of the study and discusses recommendations for potential future research.
