The author: After studying biochemistry at the Free University of Berlin, Prof. Dr. Friedrich Frischknecht completed his PhD on poxviruses at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg. Following a research stay at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, he has been leading a research group at the University Hospital in Heidelberg since 2005, focusing on the molecular basis of the movement of malaria parasites.
