Narcissism is considered a widespread phenomenon at leadership levels, significantly overrepresented compared to the rest of the population. Furthermore, younger emerging (leadership) talents exhibit markedly higher levels of narcissism than older generations have thus far. At the same time, traits of the Dark Triad (narcissism, machiavellianism, and psychopathy) typically do not occur in isolation but rather in combination. For this reason, companies should reassess their personnel selection, management, and development today. The characteristics and behavioral patterns of ruthless individuals within the Dark Triad will therefore be examined, along with possible approaches to intervention and prevention.
