The project director chose to conduct an equipping seminar to disciple Turkish Christians specifically in the area of marriage. She created the seminar to enrich their marriages according to the Scripture. Through learning the biblical instructions about marriage, Turkish believers may also learn more about the gospel and ways to share its hope with their Turkish friends and families. The project director aimed to make the seminar relevant for Central Asian culture. In chapter two, the project director chose to focus on two passages for the foundations of the seminar. She exegeted Gen 2:18-25 to focus on God's creation and purposes for marriage. She then studied Eph 5:21-33 for a New Testament foundation. This passage focuses on the roles and responsibilities in marriage for both husbands and wives. Paul also uses this passage to carry the vision of marriage to a much deeper level, as he compares the marital bond with the relationship of Christ and the church. He describes this as a mystery. The project director used this description to entitle the seminar The Mystery of Marriage.Chapter three addresses the foundations of marital counseling and the essentials of a marriage seminar. The project director researched numerous books, articles, and conducted many interviews to determine the best elements for a marriage seminar. She also compared those resources with reading about honor/shame cultures and discussions with experts in Turkish culture to discover best practices for a marriage seminar for Turkish believers. This research provided the foundations for instruction. The following chapter addressed the project process. The project director chose to create this seminar to provide IMB personnel in Western Europe with materials to disciple members of two of the Turkish churches there. She engaged an expert panel and sought wisdom from pastors and others who work with this people group. The expert panel and project director scheduled the seminar for a weekend in May 2019. She taught three sessions in a retreat setting. The final chapter addresses the assessment of the project. Since the project focused on a different culture, the project director had to modify the evaluation process. She administered a post-test but found the results inconclusive. Therefore, she sought input from the field personnel who engage this people group. Although she could now recommend improvements to the process, the project stimulated a new way of viewing marriage for the participants.
