The purpose of the dissertation is to study the extent of continuity that exists between the respective theology and ethics of Zech 8 and the book of Ephesians. The question of continuity between Zech 8 and the book of Ephesians arises from the quotation of Zech 8:16 in Eph 4:25. In ch. 1, a thorough grammatical-historical analysis of Zech 8 was undertaken to ascertain the theological and ethical emphases. The conclusion of ch. 1 was that Zech 8 emphasized covenant identity and covenant ethics for the people of God. In ch. 2, Eph 1-3 was analyzed with the aim of discerning whether or not an emphasis on covenant identity existed. The conclusion of ch. 2 was that an emphasis on covenant identity existed, but that Zech 8 exerted no textual influence on Eph 1-3. In ch. 3, Eph 4-6 was analyzed with the aim of discerning whether or not an emphasis on covenant ethics existed. The conclusion of ch. 3 was that an emphasis on covenant ethics existed and that Zech 8 played some role in shaping the ethics of Ephesians. In conclusion, after a thorough consideration of Zech 8 and a close reading of Ephesians in light of the theological and ethical emphases of Zech 8, I concluded that while Zech 8 exerted some influence on Ephesians, it is not the sole or even primary influence. Instead, readers of Ephesians should acknowledge the influence of Zech 8 as a small but significant part of a broader prophetic influence in Ephesians.
