This work intends to prove that Jesus is fully divine in Matthew's Gospel and therefore it is YAHWEH himself who, in some mysterious way, is working the miracles in chapters 8-9. Taking a theological and problem-based approach to exegesis, the first half of the work deals with key Matthean issues that establish Jesus's full divinity and the second half finds evidence of Jesus's divinity in the ten miracles. Key to this enterprise is taking the name Emmanuel to mean that Jesus is literally God-with-us on earth. The motif of divine presences pervades Matthew and culminates in 28:19, where Jesus himself promises to be with the disciples in perpetuity. It is hoped that this study assists to dispel the notion that trinitarian theology is a later construct of church history subsequently read back into the Scriptures. Nascent trinitarian theology is alive and well in Matthew.
