Thesis (Ph.D.)--Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2017.
Includes bibliographical references
This dissertation argues that all the clear uses of the Minor Prophets in Luke-Acts contributed to Luke's portrayal of the end of the old and the beginning of the new eras. In fact, Luke's portrayal of the old and new eras depends on several key texts from the Minor Prophets. Chapter 1 introduces the thesis as an intersection of scholarly discussions about the Minor Prophets, Luke's hermeneutics, and Luke's theology. Chapter 2 examines all of the uses of the Minor Prophets in the Gospel of Luke in the following structure: the source text, elements of the source text in Luke, the Lukan context of the Minor Prophet use, the Minor Prophet context, and the significance of the use for Luke-Acts. Chapter 3 follows the same sequence as the previous chapter for the book of Acts. Chapter 4 synthesizes the results of the previous two chapters to present a full picture of what the thesis entails. Chapter 5 restates the thesis, summarizes hermeneutical data gleaned from chapters two and three, and suggests topics for further research.
