The thesis of this dissertation is that there is an enduring and unchanging nature of the human male gender which gives rise to proper function. This dissertation purposes to demonstrate the enduring and unchanging nature of the human male by exploring and articulating its ontological, anthropological, and teleological grounding in the human person. As these categories are rightly understood, it will help males thrive and flourish as males, and subsequently help females to thrive and flourish as females. This will allow Christians to best understand how the human male (and female) should function for full human flourishing. This project will evaluate the work of Paul Jewett in Man as Male and Female, Stephen Clark in Man and Woman in Christ, and Stanley Grenz in Sexual Ethics. In conclusion, this project will develop a more adequate foundational understanding of what it means to be a human male and from this foundation to construct a more robust view of what it means to be human male in contradistinction to human female.
