Includes bibliographical references
Icosahedral carboranes are boron-carbon molecular clusters with many features such as three-dimensional aromaticity, and high chemical and thermal stability. These make them attractive functional units in boron neuron capture therapy agents as medicine, building blocks for supramolecular design/materials, and versatile ligands in coordination/ organometallic chemistry. Despite a wide variety of methodologies developed for the synthesis of functionalized carboranes, development of new methodologies for the synthesis of versatile carborane derivatives in a mild, efficient and cheap way is still demanding.
