As the world of social media consumes the lives of adolescents, many high school students are spending more time engaging in social media platforms than their academics. People connect with one another in the physical world and the virtual world simultaneously in the current cyber era. As students continue to use spend more time using social media, it is important to understand how social media usage correlates to the daily lives of K-12 students. Currently, there is no research that has been conducted determining if there is a relationship between social media usage, fear of missing out, and anxiety. Therefore, this study examined if relationships exist between social media usage and the fear of missing out, social media usage and anxiety and the fear of missing out and anxiety. The findings indicated positive relationships do exist between social media usage and the fear of missing out, social media usage and anxiety and the fear of missing out and anxiety. My study can help school counselors utilize this information in a positive way to help students work through academic and personal/social issues related to social media usage.
