Short-term mission trips are being taken by churches of all shapes and sizes, from a wide variety of denominational backgrounds, going to countless places around the globe. Whether the stated purpose of a short-term mission trip is primarily humanitarian, evangelistic, or both, I aim to put forward a model for short-term mission trips in the form of a book manuscript that makes the primary purpose of the trip the discipleship of the participants. A biblical and theological foundation is built by exploring the relational- formational-missional nature of God. This project then reviews relevant literature from a variety of experts in the fields of missiology, discipleship, and spiritual formation. The resulting manuscript will help maximize the formative opportunities for every short-term mission trip no matter the group size, church affiliation, purpose, or destination. The manuscript was reviewed by three theologians: one expert in the area of missiology, one expert in the area of theology, and one expert in the area of writing.
