Thesis (Ph.D.)--Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2022.
Includes bibliographical references
Marriage was a central unifying point of the sixteenth-century magisterial Protestant Reformation. This dissertation argues that the Reformers' defense and delineation of marriage in its public celebration and as a creation ordinance was supported and upheld by their interpretation and use of the wedding at Cana of Galilee passage (John 2:1-11). The methodology chiefly relies upon surveying primary source material from before, during, and after the Reformation. Particular attention is given to sermons, treatises, commentaries, and liturgies. The researcher concludes the interpretation and use was justified and can serve as a model in the present day.
