Unmanned Aerial Vehicles have been regarded as efficient and economical tools for aerial imagery acquisition. As a result, software and processing algorithms have become topics of great interest in 3D modeling research. Imagery processing can be broadly categorized into two methods-Structure from Motion (SfM) and classic photogrammetric bundle-block adjustment. This study identifies the advantages and limitations of both processing methods. A critical literature review of 10 published articles was conducted. Additionally, 36 accuracy results were extracted from the literature and combined for further analysis. All the results were analyzed based on many factors that influence the accuracy of a photogrammetric product, such as the processing software, the accuracy of Ground Control Points (GCPs), the number of GCPs, the imagery acquisition platform, the flying height, and the camera type. Finally, an independent experiment was undertaken to expand and validate previous findings. The experiment contrasted the results produced by two prominent processing programs representing SfM (Pix4Dmapper) and classic photogrammetry (Inpho Match-AT). The results indicate that classic photogrammetry programs are less susceptible to configurations with a low number of GCPs than SfM programs. Moreover, software packages based on classic photogrammetry produce absolute accuracy results better than SfM. However, SfM's processing accuracy results are good enough to be qualified for most applications (after considering accuracy requirements).
