The purpose of this study was to assess college students' ability to read nutrition labels and demonstrate accurate serving sizes using the label; and assess nutrition knowledge level and their portion consumption. The study was based off of Bryant and Dundes' (2005) study on "Portion Distortion: A Study of College Students." This study used a food demonstration and Consumer Nutrition Knowledge Scale (CoNKS) to assess the relationship between the level of nutrition knowledge and ability to demonstrate accurate serving sizes; and if portion sizes being consumed are similar to nutrition recommendations. The results indicated that average portions sizes are larger than normal and serving sizes are mis-estimated. There were no significant correlations between portion and serving sizes and nutrition knowledge.
