Background: Mood disorders involve mental illnesses that cause emotional disturbances, with both periods of sadness and joy. These disorders can significantly influence a person's behavior based on a given situation. The two main types of mood disorders are depression and anxiety. Depression is characterized by persistent feelings of tearfulness, sadness, hopelessness, and emptiness. Conversely, anxiety is mainly characterized by emotional turmoil, in which a person is overwhelmed with anxious thoughts, excessive tension, and body changes. If not effectively managed, mood disorders can lead to functional impairment, increased utilization of health services, and lost work productivity. Purpose: This proposed project aimed to establish if music therapy, compared to current practice, would result in improved depressive and anxiety symptoms. Methods: The study used pre-and post-research design. The target population comprised patients with mood disorders, with a specific focus on those with a diagnosis of depression, anxiety, or mood disorder, aged 18- 65 years. A sample of 40 participants met the inclusion criteria and was included in the study. The instruments used in the study comprised PHQ-9, GAD-7, and MDQ forms. Data were analyzed using of IBM SPSS Version 25. Results: A significant decline in PHQ9 scores was observed in the before (t (21) = 3.374, p = 0.003) and after (t (21) = -3.003, p = 0.007) therapy decreased assessments after five weeks. Conclusions: The music therapy intervention is effective for alleviating depressive symptoms among patients with mood disorders. Keywords: Mood disorders, music therapy, anxiety, depression.
