The emergence and increased ubiquity of corporate-communal open source design requires that researchers explore new ways to think about design. Open source design is complex, social, and mutable. Corporate participants in open source design use software that is always under development, reflecting an ongoing search for better solutions and a better understanding of the problems the software solves based on evolving business requirements and situational needs. This dissertation study explores how corporate participants in open source design manage uncertainty.
