Gambling activity among student-athletes is something that the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) studies every four years. Having an idea as to what gambling activities, if any, student-athletes are engaging in is important to make sure that the integrity of the sports that are being participated in are kept intact. The purpose of this study was to compare gambling activities between student-athletes and non-athlete college students. Results indicated that there were no significant differences between student-athletes and non-athlete college students when it came to gambling behavior. However, there were a few areas in which student-athletes were more prone to gamble than non-athlete college students. Student-athletes were more likely to participate in casino activities, bet on sports, play slots or other gambling machines, bet on individual games, participate in pools or bracket contests, and participate in live in-game or in-play betting activities. This study uncovered useful information in that it showed the types of gambling activities student-athletes were more likely to participate in compared to non-athlete college students. The use of the survey can uncover a multitude of other information concerning the topic of gambling and student-athletes. This information can allow researchers to further study the complexities of gambling and how it impacts collegiate student-athletes and in what areas this population is more likely to participate. This study can be used as a resource for other researchers in determining what gambling activities are of concern for student-athletes.
