Thesis (Psy.D.)--University of Colorado at Denver, 2020.

Studies have consistently shown the importance of parent involvement and engagement in education and the benefits it has on student achievement. Using data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, this study investigated the types of school events in which parents participate. Participants were parents of 11,083 third graders. Differences in participation across various demographics were examined. Findings revealed high levels of participation in all demographic groups. The most well attended activities included Back to School Night and other school events and Parent-Teacher Conferences. Although some significant differences across demographic groups were observed, the associations were extremely weak and thus not meaningful. Findings of this study can serve as guidance for schools in fostering parent participation and engagement.
