Introduction: This qualitative study viewed music therapists' perspectives on working with adolescents on the autism spectrum. Despite the growing prevalence of literature focusing on music therapists' perspectives on working with children on the autism spectrum, research on the music therapists' perspectives on working with adolescents on the autism spectrum remains limited. This study examined the existing literature on adolescents and young adults on the autism spectrum and provided an overview of the theoretical frameworks that underpin music therapy practice. This study aims to investigate how music therapists use music in therapy to support and understand the adolescents with whom they work. This study is an extension of broader research that aimed to map the range of perceptions and experiences of music therapists in their work with autistic adolescence based on current approaches to disability.Method: A constructivist qualitative paradigm was applied and included semi-structured indepth interviews that took place with nine experienced music therapists who work in various settings, following a purposive homogenous sampling. The data analysis framework was a reflexive thematic analysis approach (Reflexive TA) and included a depth examination of the data.Findings: Three superordinate themes emerged from the data analysis: 1) Identity Development, 2) Music as a Tool for Promoting Integration and Social Learning 3) Control and Independence. Conclusions: The study discovered that music therapists who participated in this study perceive music therapy as beneficial when working with adolescents and young adults on the autism spectrum, emphasizing its effective contribution and support during their transition from childhood to adulthood in various aspects such as identity development, social learning, participation and integration, and control and independence, while also providing a unique glimpse into the use of musical means.
