In order to investigate the performance of layered electromagnetic absorbers of prescribed thickness, a minimization method which can handle functions defined over a polyhedral region of the real space is presented. A number of examples is included together with two numerical programs, which are thoroughly discussed in both their theoretical and practical aspects.
