Thesis (M.A.)--Pratt Institute, 2023.
Includes bibliographical references
Examining the works and perspectives of three influential non-fungible token (NFT) artists, Kevin McCoy, Beeple and PAK, this thesis will explore NFT art and its future. The emergence of NFTs has created a unique opportunity for digital art to be sold as unique and scarce objects of value. This has been made possible through the utilization of blockchain technology, which has enabled artists to secure the ownership and authenticity of their digital works. Often hindered by the publicity surrounding the individual sales and prices of the artworks, the artistic side has not been much examined. Yet, the artists such as McCoy, Beeple, and Pak have not only pioneered but also continued to push the boundaries of what is possible for the NFT world. While there lie challenges and opportunities, the future of NFT art will depend on its ability to overcome these challenges and establish itself as a valuable and legitimate form of art, while also navigating the rapidly changing technological landscape.
