Previous research suggests that athletics can be an important adjunct to therapy with youth, particularly underserved and disenfranchised populations. The current study aims to evaluate the impact of sports-based group therapy program on the development of teamwork skills. A secondary aim is to evaluate the mediating impact of inhibitory control on the relationship between group participation and teamwork skills. The present study is a quantitative observational design. Participants were recruited through convenience sampling from youth enrolled in Chalk Talk, a sports-based group therapy program at Doc Wayne Youth Services, which enrolls approximately 200 youth aged 7-15 years. Results indicate that there was a significant difference on teamwork time 2 scores between the two groups. No other main effects were found. The insignificant results are mostly likely due to methodological limitations, including limited sample size due to a variety of factors.
