Bullying is a serious problem that affects a large number of children and adolescents. Over the past 50 years, research has demonstrated an association between bullying and many negative implications. These implications range from social and academic difficulties to experiences of severe psychological distress. Awareness of these implications highlights a need for bullying interventions to decrease the prevalence of bullying in schools. While a number of bullying interventions have been developed and implemented in schools, bullying continues to occur at concerning rates. Given the high rates of bullying among early elementary-age youth, interventions focused on supporting youth in this population may help to decrease the prevalence of bullying and incidence of negative implications associated with bullying. An examination of the literature on bibliotherapy suggests that children's books on bullying may help to address this problem when utilized in conjunction with the bullying interventions currently implemented in schools. Thus, the purpose of this dissertation was to evaluate the currently available children's books on bullying and utilize both the professional literature and the information obtained to develop a new children's book as an additional resource to address the problem of bullying among early elementary-age youth.
