In order to ensure the safety in transportation, one main factor in the truck loading problem is the stability. This thesis presents two models for the truck loading problem from two aspects: balancing the axle weight and balancing the total weight for trucks. One model is to load a set of products with different weights into pallets and then load those pallets into several available trucks with the purpose to minimize the number of required trucks. The constraints are related to the weight limit for the trucks and the axle weight balance. A Mixed Integer Problem (MIP) is used to solve the problem. The other model is to load a set of cargos with different weights into a fixed number of trucks with the purpose to balance the loaded weights for all of the trucks. The constraints are only related to the weight limit. Two types of MIP models are employed, and also a heuristic is designed to solve the problem. The unique contribution of this thesis is consideration of axle weights in solving the problem. Keywords. Truck loading problem; Weight balance; Mixed integer programming (MIP).
