Bathymetric maps represent a useful tool for marine archaeologists from planning underwater excavations and site preservation to having a thorough understanding of the maritime landscape. Traditionally, bathymetry is obtained through acoustic methods requiring high costs and complex logistics. As an alternative, this thesis aims at developing and implementing methods for retrieving water depth levels by using satellites and drones. The chosen study areas are the Herodian harbour of Sebastos, the Lake Kinneret and the northern region of Israel. At present, high-resolution data in these areas is lacking, in addition to detailed bathymetric maps. Remote sensing data is also used for semi-automatic identification of maritime features (e.g., shallow rocks above and below the water level). In summary, this study incorporates multispectral satellite imagery, statistical analyses, mathematical models, bathymetric sonar maps, drone imagery, information taken from literature and GIS resources to generate comprehensible maps which will help maritime and underwater archaeologists in various ways.

520 $a מפות בטימטריות, אשר מתארות שינויים בעומק קרקעית הים, תורמות רבות למחקר ארכיאולוגי של הסביבה הימית, החל משלבי תכנון וביצוע החפירה, וכלה בשלבי ניתוח התוצאות והבנת ההקשרים הגאוגרפיים שלהם. באופן מסורתי מיפוי קרקעית הים נעשה בשיטות אקוסטיות שדורשות מאמץ לוגיסטי מורכב ויקר. עבודה זאת, נועדה לפתח וליישם שיטות למיפוי קרקעית הים וזיהוי אוטומטי של סלעים באמצעות שימוש בנתונים מלויינים ומרחפנים. פיתוח ויישום השיטות כלל איסוף וניתוח נתונים מולטי-ספקטרליים, צילומי רחפן ומדידות שדה, תוך התמקדות בשלושה אזורים בעלי מאפיינים שונים: 1 .רכסי הכורכר צפון מערבית לעכו, 2 .איזור נמל קיסריה ו3 .אתר ארכיאולוגי באגם הכנרת.תוצאות העבודה מדגימות את הפוטנציאל הרב של שימוש בנתוני חישה מרחוק, למיפוי הסביבה החופית, ומספקות תשתית לאפיון שינויים לאורך זמן באמצעות יישום השיטה על תצפיות, מלויינים ומרחפנים, ממועדים שונים .
