This project examined how churches in the United Church of Christ, Chicago Metropolitan Association, welcome people with cognitive disabilities. Through interviews and other ethnographic methods, pastors in Cluster 4 were asked about their experiences with cognitive and other disabilities and their recommendations for serving people with disabilities. It examined what history, scripture, and modern theologians teach about disabilities. Because cognitive disabilities are often not separated from other disabilities by church congregations or in history, disabilities in general are discussed. The project concludes with recommendations and a letter to Cluster 4 pastors offering them and their congregations support and education.
