The project is a research through art and design to explore a creative approach for improving failed interactions between people. A robot toy for personal use will be the main found object to discuss the subject. The goal is to encourage users to reflect on negative interactions and emotional expressions by interacting with the toy. The design aims to provide unexpected and negative interactions for users. From the default aggressive reaction of the toy, people have a chance to contemplate their actions. Users can have experience of understanding a complex object with patience while finding out the toy's unknown features without instructions. The toy has multiple states and expressions that will function as emotional representations. The project researched previous studies about harassment mitigation tools and existing social/companion robots. Also, the research explores what it means to portray emotions by the example of animal memes. Then the project moves on to prototyping Scruffy, a small white fluffy robot toy for further research.
