The benefits of being involved in sports, whether individual or team, continue to be emphasized. In addition to the benefits of partaking in group activities, sports allow individuals to cultivate relationships, maintain high motivation levels, experience sound psychological well-being, decrease stress rates, and more. The problem addressed in this study is that positive relationships among coaches and individual sport athletes are often lacking, which results in athlete burnout and attrition. The purpose of this quantitative, correlational study was to examine whether a relationship exists between burnout among student athletes, the coach athlete relationship, and demographics. Ideally, coaches are instrumental in changing an athlete's environment and significantly helping to eliminate some stressors in the training process. Data obtained in the study were analyzed using the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS). To test the hypothesis, the linear regression was calculated to determine the level of relationship between coaches and athletes and whether their interrelationship affects athlete burnout. I sought to answer the following questions: "What is the relationship between CART-Q (coach-athlete relationship) scores and ABQ (athlete burn-out) scores?" and "What is the relationship, if any, between CART-Q scores and ABQ scores by race, gender, and age, in a sample of sport athletes?" The study's findings illustrated that many individual aspects of the coach-athlete relationship significantly predict burnout. Specifically, closeness and commitment on the part of the coach strongly predict burnout risk in athletes. Conversely, demographic factors do not.
