This research study aimed to understand how program directors utilize feedback from counselors to implement new program changes. There is currently a lack of research on how program directors use counselors' feedback to implement change. Current research suggests that while anger management treatment is available for youth, it fails to meet the needs of youth in urban communities. This generic qualitative study helped explore program directors' individualized perceptions of how they use feedback from counselors to implement new program changes. For this generic inquiry, semi-structured interviews were conducted. The sample size for this study was ten participants. The inclusion criteria were for program directors to have this position for at least one year. The program had to be in an urban community. Program directors of adult anger management programs were not considered. The participants ranged from 35-55 years of age. The participant experience went from 1 to 25 years of clinical work in counseling and social work. All participants hold at least a master's degree in their profession. An inductive analysis approach was used to analyze the data. The data were also analyzed using the qualitative software MAXQDA to confirm or add to the inductive analysis. The results suggest that counselors provide directors with feedback. While feedback is shared, how the feedback is utilized to implement changes is unclear in some programs. When deciding to make changes, the program design and the stakeholders involved are essential. Evidence-based programs have stringent protocols and procedures, which make changes difficult. The program director cannot make clinical changes to treatment but can view systematic changes or consider additional staff training. Future research can include the voices of the youth participating in treatment. While counselor feedback is helpful, it is subjective. What counselors feel is needed to help improve treatment may vary from the youth's experience. Furthermore, future research should examine the differences between evidence-based programs and non-evidence-based treatment.
