This study provides an overview of the current state of policies shaping efforts to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions in the building sector through the process of electrifying existing fossil fuel usage. Via a case study of ongoing building electrification efforts in the city of Seattle, this study explores how commonly found data like permit information and tax assessor records can be combined with proprietary utility data to identify trends in the HVAC market and buildings that may be able to access renovation funds. The audience for this study is policymakers, industry leaders, and community-based organizations looking to operationalize the climate provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
