The study investigated the effect of two different ways of introducing new collocations (thematically and in an unrelated manner), two different collocation teaching methods (L2 only, and L1-L2 contrastive analysis), and the interaction between the two factors of grouping types and teaching methods upon the ease with which new L2 collocations are learned. Thirty-seven EFL College Israeli learners were taught twenty new incongruent adjective-noun collocations. Ten were thematically related; ten were unrelated. Ten (five from each cluster type) were taught in English only, and the other ten were taught via L1- L2 Contrastive Analysis. In a counterbalanced within-subject design, each student studied different collocations in four conditions: Thematic/L2, thematic/L1-L2, unrelated/L2, unrelated/L1-L2. The collocations were practiced in four form-focused activities. Pretests were used to check collocation knowledge among the participants and ensured that the students were unfamiliar with the new target collocations. Posttests measured the participants' immediate and delayed comprehension and production of the target collocations. Data were analyzed by Repeated Measures and post-hoc pair comparisons. Results showed effects for the two main variables. The 'unrelated/L1-L2' condition yielded the best results and 'thematic /L2' fared worst. The results were discussed in light of the interference theory in collocation clusters, L1-L2 awareness raising, and the effectiveness of form-focused instruction.

520 $a מחקר זה בוחן את השפעת שתי דרכי הצגה שונות של קולוקציות )בקבוצות לפי נושאלעומ בקבוצות המכילות מילים אקראיות(, שתי מתודות הוראת קולוקציות )בעזרת תרגום לשפת האם ) Contrastive L2-L1 Analysis )לעומת הוראה באנגלית בלבד(, ואת האינטראקציה בין שני המשתנים של סוגי מקבץ ודרכי הוראה על לימוד קולוקציות חדשות. 37 סטודנטים ישראלים התנסו בלמידת 20 קולוקציות מסוג תואר-שם עצם שאין להן מקבילות זהות בעברית )collocations incongruent .)עשר הוצגו במקבץ לפי נושא ועשר לא השתייכו לנושא משותף. עשר )חמש מתוך כל קבוצת נושא( נלמדו באנגלית בלבד,ועשר האחרות נלמדו בעזרת ניתוח מעמת עברית-אנגלית. במערך תוך-נבדקי עם מדידות חוזרות, כל תלמיד למד קולוקציות שונות בארבעה מצבים: תחת נושא\\רק באנגלית, תחת נושא \\באנגלית ובעברית, מקבץ קולוקציות לא קשורות\\רק באנגלית, ומקבץ קולוקציות לא קשורות\\באנגלית ובעברית. הקולוקציות נלמדו דרך תרגילים שונים מסוג "מוכוון תבנית" )focused form .)מבחן מקדים אישר שהמשתתפים לא הכירו את הקולוקציות, ומבחן בסיום הלמידה בדק הבנה של הקולוקציות ויכולת הפקתן מיד לאחר הלמידה ובטווח הרחוק יותר )שבועיים לאחר המבחן המיידי(. לאחר ניתוח שונות למדידות חוזרות )Measures Repeated )והשוואות hoc-post ,נמצא שלימוד קולוקציות במצב 'מקבץ קולוקציות לא קשורות\\באנגלית ובעברית' היה היעיל ביותר ושלימוד קולוקציות במצב 'תחת נושא\\רק באנגלית' הניב תוצאות נמוכות ביותר. התוצאות נידונו לאור תאוריית ההתערבות ) Interference Theory )בהקשר של מקבץ מילים בקטגוריות שונות, שימוש בשפת אם להגברת המודעות להבדלים בין עברית לאנגלית, ויעילות הוראה ממוקדת של קולוקציות חדשות בשפה חדשה.‪‪‪
