This study explored the effectiveness of TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) in Rwanda. It evaluated how well the current TVET system aligned with essential skills in the employment sector. The researcher used a mixed method approach, whereby both primary and secondary data were collected. Semi-structured interviews of industry leaders were used to collect the primary data; the secondary data were retrieved from authoritative studies conducted by Rwandan government agencies and other reputable international development organizations. The results showed large gaps between the skills provided in the school system (including TVET) and the actual needs of the job market in Rwanda. Rwandan TVET schools mainly focus on hard skills while overlooking soft skills such as job search and interview skills that are needed to find gainful employment or start their own business. Poor information flow between TVETs and industry, outdated training curriculums, poor leadership, and low language literacy significantly contributed to the employability of TVET graduates.
