Previous research has demonstrated mixed results related to the effects of perfectionism on athletes. Researchers have challenged the pathological one-dimensional depiction of perfectionism, proposing perfectionism is a multifaceted construct. Furthermore, perfectionism researchers have asserted it is important to understand the unhealthy (i.e., perfectionistic concern) and healthy (i.e., perfectionistic striving) aspects of perfectionism as well as the perfectionist types. In this study, data were collected from 97 elite athletes, many of whom self-identified as religious. Participants completed self-report measures that indicated their spiritual views (i.e., Perceived Perfectionism of God Scale, Attitudes toward God Scale-9) as well as their personal well-being (i.e., depression, anxiety, self-esteem). In this study, I endeavored to add to the body of research literature related to the intersectionality of perfectionism and spirituality to elucidate the effects of perfectionism on elite athletes' well-being and spiritual perceptions.
