The purpose of this study is to show that Luke alludes to the book of Proverbs when he calls the Church "the Way". This study followed a method commonly used for identifying allusions. Moreover, the study used a method that identifies motifs in literature to determine that Luke is using the way metaphor as a motif in Acts. The study first shown the lacuna in research concerning Luke's motive or referent for calling the Church "the Way". Second, the study examined the probability of Proverb's influence on Luke. Third, the study provided an in-depth analysis of the way metaphor in Acts. The study concluded that Proverb's is the likely referent of Luke's use of "the Way" when referring to the Church.
