Previous scholarship on Black adolescent girls and the construction of their identities have shown that hegemonic narratives about Black women's bodies and sexuality in hip hop have had a profound impact on their sense of agency, sexual risk-taking behaviors, and overall psychological well-being. In response to the existing literature, it is important for Black girls to have the tools they need to disrupt messages of hegemony, capitalism, patriarchy, and racism regarding their identities found in hip hop music. This article theorizes about how Critical Hip Hop Pedagogy (CHHP) can be used in music therapy to support Black girls in being critically conscious consumers of hip hop through the utilization of innovative digital practices. Furthermore, this article explores how CHHP can be used to tap into Black girls' limitless potential to research, deconstruct, and act in ways that promote agentic behaviors in the face of sociohistorical contexts that seek to constrain their futures.
