This study explored the adoption and implementation of e-learning in Nigeria's public and private higher education institutions. Higher education institutions in Nigeria continue to use traditional methods of teaching and learning despite the emergence of better methods such as e-learning. The purpose of this multicase study was to explore Nigeria's public and private higher education professors' and students' perceptions and experience of using e-learning components in teaching and learning, and the factors that they believed benefitted or challenged the use of e-learning components. The Technology Individual Pedagogy and Enabling Conditions (TIPEC) framework and pedagogical model guided the study method for this qualitative, exploratory multiple case study to gather useful information about e-learning in Nigeria's public and private higher education institutions from professors and students. Convenience and purposeful sampling method were used to gather data. Open-ended questionnaires and focused group discussion were the primary data collection tools. The data collected was analyzed through thematic analysis. The participants gave various benefits and challenges of e-learning components and platforms based on their experiences and presented that e-learning was simple, convenient, flexible, and time-saving. They also identified that using e-learning platforms and technologies included poor internet connectivity, unstable power supply, high initial cost of electronic gadgets and Wi-Fi installation, and the lack of technical knowledge on how to navigate e-learning platforms. Educators at higher education institutions in Nigeria can develop strategies and approaches to solve these challenges before adopting or implementing any e-learning platforms or technologies.
