Indigenous Canadians experience disproportionate rates of economic marginalization compared to their non-Indigenous counterparts (Joseph & Joseph, 2019; Monchalin, 2016; Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada [TRC], 2015. This is just one of the many negative transgenerational outcomes that resulted from Canada's Indian Residential School System (IRSS) (Helin, 2008; Monchalin, 2016; TRC, 2015). Addressing the economic circumstances of Indigenous peoples supports Canada's journey towards reconciliation (Miller, 2017; TRC, 2015) and serves to benefit all Canadians (Fiscal Realities Economists, 2016; Helin, 2008).Grounded by the positivist paradigm, data were collected from University of Regina and Universite de Montreal students regarding their perceptions of who is responsible for addressing the economic circumstances of Indigenous Canadians and whether justice following the IRSS includes social justice reforms such as the redistribution of economic resources. Almost all survey participants expressed the perception that the economic circumstances of Indigenous peoples should be addressed using a collaborative approach. Age, gender, and province of residence were found to be significant predictors of this perception. Other significant predictors included the participants' self-reported support for reconciliation, the acknowledgement that the IRSS was responsible for the past and present economic circumstances of Indigenous peoples, as well as support for Indigenous self-determination and increased participation in governance.Eighty percent of respondents agreed that justice following the IRSS includes social justice reforms such as the redistribution of economic resources. Gender, provinceiiiof residence, and income were found to be significant predictors of this perception. Other significant predictors included: (1) acknowledgement that Indigenous peoples experienced pain in the past because of the IRSS, (2) acknowledgment that Indigenous peoples experience economic pain today because of the IRSS, (3) agreement that the economic situation of Indigenous peoples is a national concern, (4) support for Indigenous self-determination, (5) support for the inclusion of Indigenous peoples in governance, and (6) agreement that reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadian's has not occurred yet. In conclusion, this study adds to understandings of non-Indigenous Canadians' perceptions regarding Indigenous issues and reconciliation.
