My entire research asks one question: could isolation be beautiful and meaningful? The word isolation was frequently discussed during my research on how covid has impacted people psychologically and mentally during quarantine. Although isolation could result in loneliness which could further cause mental issues such as stress or anxiety, the research shows that isolation is a subjective feeling which has no direct correlation to physical isolation. The thesis presents artworks created in isolation that illustrate the power of isolation which could lead to creativity. To further understand what isolation in the context of our everyday lives means, the thesis analyzes isolation space in the dialogue with the domestic environment and discusses how it affects the feeling of isolation and how possibly we could reconstruct space for isolation today that could enrich and furnish a person. My final project is an art installation that translates the isolation space into an abstract representation which hopes to encourage viewers to see isolation space, not as an intimating and despairing space but as perhaps beautiful and meaningful.
