The purpose of this qualitative study was to determine what factors were most important to Black and Latino males at a private, faith-based, predominately white institution (PWI). Using a sample of Black and Latino male Alumni of a private, faith-based, predominately white institution, a sample of five young men were interviewed for this study. The goal of the study was to inform leaders of the experiences of this student population. These topics covered are not discussed upon graduation, but could be beneficial in helping increase retention rates of Black and Latino males on these faith based campuses. The factors considered include staff interaction/support, campus faith community, internal motivation, faculty interaction/support, pre-existing faith community, family support, cultural pride, peer support, classroom experience, campus culture, cognitive variables, and parent's education level. Participants each took part in single one-on-one interviews (three components) with the researcher. It was determined that internal motivation, staff/faculty interaction, and the campus faith community significantly influenced the student's success. The goal is that the recommendations made from this study can be of use to the student development professionals at this site institution to help guide and inform practices and policy reform.
