The purpose of this exploratory study was to examine what the parent-child relationship looks like in homeschooling families. This research examined two research questions in depth: How does the homeschooling experience impact the parent-child relationship?; and How does the parent-child relationship change as the parent's role shifts from parent to teacher? These questions were explored through eight semi-structured interviews with homeschooling parent-child dyads in which they described their own individual homeschool experiences. Parent and child perspectives were taken into account utilizing grounded theory to develop five core categories and fourteen subcategories. These themes were analyzed and developed into a centerpiece category of Art of Individualization, in which the themes of individualization of experience and homeschooling as an art are identified. Implications of the emergent theme suggest that the parent-child relationship in homeschooling families is best understood within the context of individualization and fluidity, which may be best described as an art.
