Education has evolved and changed, requiring educators to equip students with 21st century learning skills that help learners face future challenges in the competitive world. English language teachers should provide students with practices and processes which focus on 21st century learning skills like collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. These four skills are known as the 4Cs, and they help learners thrive in their professional lives. To meet the challenges of the modern workplace, English lessons should not merely focus on English skills, but also incorporate the 4Cs into the teaching-learning process. The present study integrated 21st century skills into English classrooms using content-based instruction to maximize English learning experiences. A unit of study was designed using advertisements focused on social issues to help adults and older teens explore authentic material while also tackling topics that can be related to their lives. Scholars can learn the content being presented, along with 21st century learning skills, while using the target language. Moreover, English language teachers can promote social awareness to better educate global citizens who can then contribute to the betterment of society. Thus, this unit of study provides English educators with specific guides and applications that can be utilized in the classroom to transform their teaching practices.
