The era of globalization and modernization results in the mass usage of different technological gadgets and the appearance of a modern lingua franca - English. These gadgets are used for communication, sharing information, photos, and videos. Social media discourse reveals that users with a variety of native (and non-English) languages all use English as the lingua franca. This work investigates the multilingual discourse on social media platforms such as Instagram. The study utilizes 40 samples of the usage of code switching, code mixing, and borrowing phenomena from English in Ukrainian and Russian discourse. The samples were collected from the different types of Instagram accounts of bloggers, as well as private, educational, and business pages. The analyzed Instagram pages, based on the posts geotags, belong to Ukrainian users.The findings reveal that English words and phrases are widely used in the discourse of Ukrainian Instagram users. The typical features of the Instagram discourse include inter-sentential and emblematic code switching, intra-sentential and intra-lexical code mixing. Loanword, loan translation, and loan-blend as types of borrowings were used in the users' biographies and post captions. The usage of tags, geotags, and various linguistic phenomena create the typical features of the language of Instagram. Linguistic phenomena, such as the usage of both Cyrillic and Latin alphabets, shortening, and adaptation of English words to Ukrainian by adding affixes and endings appear in the collected samples as well.
