There is some level of debate in the Broadway and theater world when it comes to professionally filmed theatrical shows: isn't theater entertainment best experienced in the physical theater? In recent years, there has been a rising trend of Broadway film releases that might suggest otherwise. The rise of streaming services has completely changed the way viewers experience entertainment. As the competition within the streaming industry increases, platforms are becoming more and more dependent on unique content offerings to differentiate themselves to their audiences and earn subscriptions. Could theater related film titles be one such key differentiator? Through a survey of individuals and several professional interviews with media and theater experts, this study produced a mix of qualitative and quantitative data to help understand the impact theater-related content will have in a virtual streaming space. The research has provided clarity to several strategies streaming platforms can utilize to ensure this content is a successful and valuable addition to their ever-growing content libraries. Ultimately, the results show that, while streaming theater may not serve as a replacement for the live version, it still has the power to exist in a harmonious and beneficial way for both industries. With theater, the possibilities are endless.
