I believe more people appreciate artworks as digital images through their smartphones or computers rather than visiting a gallery, museum, or artist's studio. It has become apparent that technology and social changes affect how audiences appreciate artworks. I am interested in how this plays out in contemporary sculpture and insist that this technology, especially screen images, has an intriguing influence on the artworks by David Altmejd related to the sense of touch. Humans have a lack of real interactions with objects and places due to a smartphone. Therefore, people need more tactile stimuli and crave a sense of materiality, and it is shown in David's artworks that satisfy our tactile desires. David's sculptures enhance and stimulate the viewer's sense of touch by using various materials, describing textures and creatures, and adding numerous details.
