Invasive species introductions are a primary threat to native fishes globally and preventing their establishment and spread has become a central focus of modern fisheries management. Brook Stickleback is classified as an aquatic invasive species in Wyoming, but our understanding of the species and its effects on native communities is limited. I first assessed the current distribution and landscape-level habitat drivers of Brook Stickleback, and its overlap with native fishes in the North Platte River drainage. I found that Brook Stickleback's distribution is not rapidly expanding but rather seems to be in a state of stasis and that the species is primarily limited by slope, preferring low gradient sites. Brook Stickleback overlapped spatially with several native fishes, but Iowa Darter and Brassy Minnow showed fidelity to lentic sites where Brook Stickleback was absent. Second, I evaluated the feeding ecology of Brook Stickleback relative to native fishes and tested for changes in the trophic ecology of sympatric native fishes with Brook Stickleback. I found that Brook Stickleback's feeding ecology was similar to that of native fishes, though Flathead Chub and Iowa Darter had a higher degree of trophic specialization. The trophic ecology of native fishes was relatively unaffected by Brook Stickleback presence, though Fathead Minnow showed evidence of niche contraction when in sympatry with Brook Stickleback. I conclude that while ongoing monitoring and systematic sampling of lentic waterbodies will be necessary to further improve our understanding of the species, Brook Stickleback may not be a current management priority in Wyoming.
