Simultaneous communication (Sim-Com), is a common communication mode that was developed for the education system of deaf and hard of hearing in order to improve the acquisition of the spoken language by representing it in sign language. Most previous studies that tested the influence of Sim-Com on the spoken language explored its influence on the suprasegmental characteristics of the speech. Those studies found that although most SimCom users are able to produce the majority of spoken words in signs and maintain the meaning intact, the speech does change and it includes longer sentence durations, increased number of gaps between syllables and longer gap durations. The current study addresses a less studied influence of Sim-Com by describing the changes that occur in the lexical and syntactic aspects of the spoken language (Hebrew), aiming to understand the factors that explain those changes. Additionally, the study uniquely examines Sim-Com as a dual task situation, and therefore uses the performance in a non-linguistic dual task as one of the explanatory predictors. Forty bimodal bilingual adults, who use Sim-Com on a daily basis, participated in the current study. All participants acquired Hebrew as first language and Israeli Sign Language (ISL) as adults. Participants were asked to tell four versions of the "frog story" in four different conditions: Hebrew only, Sim-Com (Hebrew and ISL), Hebrew in a dual task (telling the story while doing a finger-tapping task), and ISL alone (without speaking). Participants were also completed an ISL vocabulary knowledge task, an ISL fluency task and a Language history questionnaire. Results showed a significant reduction in lexical and syntactic diversity measures of the spoken language in the Sim-Com condition compared with the Hebrew only condition. Experience with Sim-Com and ISL vocabulary level were found as predictors to some of the main differences, beyond the initial baseline ability in Hebrew. The comparable score in the dual task condition did not explain this difference in any of the measures. The current findings provide evidence for a reduction of the spoken language in a Sim-Com condition. They also suggest that bimodal bilinguals do not experience the Sim-Com condition as an extra load dual task condition. This reduction in the spoken language also imply that the Sim-Com method may not represents a fully diverse spoken language, as it expected to.

520 $a תקשורת סימולטנית, Com-Sim ,הינה סוגת תקשורת נפוצה אשר פותחה עבור מערכת החינוך לתלמידים כבדי שמיעה וחירשים על מנת לשפר את רכישת השפה הדבורה של התלמידים באמצעות ייצוגה על ידי שפת הסימנים. מרביתם של המחקרים הקודמים אשר עסקו בהשפעת ה-Com-Sim על השפה הדבורה בדקו את ההשפעה על המאפיינים הסופרא-סגמנטליים של הדיבור. מחקרים אלה מצאו כי למרות שרובם של המשתמשים ב-Com-Sim מסוגלים להפיק את מרבית המילים הדבורות גם בסימון תוך שמירה על משמעות המסר, מאפייני הדיבור משתנים וכוללים זמן משפט ממושך יותר בשל עליה במשך ההברה )בתוך המילה(, עליה במספר המרווחים בין הברות והארכה של זמן המרווחים.המחקר הנוכחי נוגע בתחום אשר פחות נחקר עד כה בכל הקשור להשפעת ה-Com-Sim וזאת באמצעות תיאור השינויים המתרחשים בלקסיקון ובתחביר של השפה הדבורה )עברית( וניסיון להבין את הגורמים המסבירים שינויים אלה. בנוסף, המחקר מסתכל באופן ייחודי על ה-Com-Sim כמצב של כפל מטלות Dual( (Task ועל כן משתמש בתפקוד במצב של מטלה כפולה לא שפתית כאחד המנבאים לתוצאות.רבעים מבוגרים דו-לשוניים בי-מודליים, המשתמשים ב-Com-Sim באופן יומיומי במסגרת החינוכית בה הם עובדים, השתתפו במחקר הנוכחי. כל הנבדקים רכשו את העברית כשפה ראשונה ואת שפת הסימנים הישראלית )שס"י( בבגרותם. הנבדקים התבקשו לספר ארבע גרסאות של סיפורי ה-"Story Frog "בארבעה מצבים שונים: עברית בלבד, Com-Sim( עברית ושס"י(, עברית בעת מטלה כפולה )משימת הקלדה( ושפת סימנים בלבד )ללא דיבור(. בנוסף, המשתתפים ביצעו מבדק אוצר מילים בשס"י, מבדק שטף מילולי בשס"י ושאלון רקע שפתתוצאות המחקר הראו הפחתה משמעותית בכל מדדי הגיוון הלקסיקלי והתחבירי של השפה הדבורה במצב של Com-Sim לעומת מצב של דיבור בלבד. רמת הניסיון ב-Com-Sim ואוצר המילים בשס"י נמצאו כמנבאים מעבר להשפעה של היכולת הבסיסית בשפה העברית. יכולת התפקוד במצב של כפל מטלות לא ניבאה אף אחד מהמדדיםממצאים הנוכחיים מספקים תמיכה לצמצום של השפה הדבורה במצב של Com-Sim ומעלים את האפשרות כי דו-לשוניים בי-מודליים אינם חווים את ה-Com-Sim כמצב של כפל מטלות בעל עומס קוגניטיבי עודף, אלא כמצב של אינטראקציה בין שתי שפות. צמצום השפה הדבורה עשוי לרמז גם על כך שייתכן שבניגוד למטרתה, שיטת ה-Com-Sim אינה תומכת ברכישה של מלוא העושר של השפה הדבורה המחקר הראו הפחתה משמעותית בכל מדדי הגיוון הלקסיקלי והתחבירי של השפה הדבורה במצב של Com-Sim לעומת מצב של דיבור בלבד. רמת הניסיון ב-Com-Sim ואוצר המילים בשס"י נמצאו כמנבאים מעבר להשפעה של היכולת הבסיסית בשפה העברית. יכולת התפקוד במצב של כפל מטלות לא ניבאה אף אחד מהמדדים.
