This research paper will focus on outlining the importance of motivation in teaching students in the online classes. There are several factors or challenges involved in the second language acquisition especially when the classes are online. The learning in a virtual environment is dependent on how motivated a person is to keep the learning process going. It also depends on the learning process and not solely on the intelligence of the learner for effective learning and retaining of the information. This research paper will focus on how people with different motivational levels and learning styles can differ in acquiring language skills in online classes. It will also analyze the factors that play a major role in influencing motivation in online classes.COVID-19 has brought unprecedented times in education. In these unprecedented times, educators have struggled hard to adapt their educational offerings into new arrangements and spaces. This task of teaching language becomes more challenging when the classes are online and there is no personal touch with the students. The main aim of this research paper is to find ways to keep students motivated in the online classes. The paper includes three stages: The first stage aims to provide the theoretical background of motivation and its role in second language acquisition. The second stage focuses on the challenges faced by teachers teaching online. Lastly, the third stage aims to provide strategies to keep students engaged and involved in online classes, including apps and activities that can make online classes more interactive and engaging.
