This Action Research project was conducted in a school in Santiago, Chile, from thenecessity of helping ninth-grade students develop the intercultural competence in the foreignlanguage class (English as a foreign language) through politeness principles. In order to do so, aqualitative approach was adopted where students were exposed to a first focus group followed byan intervention; a set of activities focused on producing language, to promote the acknowledgmentof politeness patterns and the development of the intercultural competence skill.
