This study employs Critical Race Theory (CRT) through the lens of Lat/Crit, to situate the bilingual multicultural education debate and the political discourse occurring in the state of New Mexico. The ideological perceptions of school principals' to effectively implement, evaluate, and promote bilingual multicultural education programs in their schools has cause for political discourse with respect to the ever changing leadership within our state government.New Mexico has a long history of protecting the languages and cultures of its people, having established policies protecting linguistic and cultural diversity in the state's Constitution. Educational leaders in New Mexico are paving the way to providing our linguistic diverse children with equal education opportunities to become bilingual and biliterate, recognizing the value and beauty of the different languages and cultures within our state. This study used a qualitative case analysis to gain access to principal's ideological experiences. These perceptions were examined through the notion that complex systems within the school organization provided support for school principals to acquire an effective background and understanding of the bilingual education programs in their schools. Within the qualitative methods research design, a phenomenological inquiry strategy was utilized along with the crystallization analysis of the data collected. The research design of this study included in-depth interviewing, observation, and an online survey. After a thorough cross-examination of each of these data sets, eight themes emerged from the research study including: Culturally Competent Leadership; Professional Development; Commitment to Bilingual Education and Leadership; Principal Leadership Support; Personnel Recruitment; Significance of Bilingual Policy; Collaborative Leadership; and Parent and Community Involvement.
